    Des Moines Area Community College utilizes cooperative contracts frequently because it allows the college to receive competitive pricing without committing the time and resources to an RFP process.     We decided to solicit bids for food supplies to ensure that we were getting the best prices considering that our Food Services Department is expected to generate revenue.  Though an extensive process, US Foods’ participation in the solicitation allowed the college to compare the OMNIA Partners pricing side-by-side to that of other participating vendors.  In regards to the college’s core items list, US Foods’ pricing was approximately 9% less than its closest competitor.  Furthermore, the college was able to confirm bid pricing accuracy when challenged to review actual costs six months into the US Foods contract.
